Dr. Karel Baxa, primator [lord mayor] of the city of Prague, died on 5.1.1938. Throughout the post-war years, I had opportunities to meet and work with him. I am certainly not mistaken in saying that we knew each other well and appreciated each other.

Two things brought us together: the industries of the capital, Prague, and Narodni jednota posumavska, where we were dealing with trade issues; these we worked on without any unsavoury political aftertaste, thanks to the tact and understanding
of the deceased.(…)

Much has been changed by his departure and many will miss him as much as myself.
